Computational Chemist

Bioinformatics Scientist II, PhoreMost

PhoreMost® are looking for talented and innovative computational scientists to join our bioinformatics team and support our revolutionary discovery campaigns. The successful candidate will join a growing group and contribute to our analysis and discovery efforts using a variety of different established approaches. You will also work as a collective and individually to develop new tools and implement novel pipelines to enable our screening and drug discovery efforts.

Who we are:

We are an integrated drug discovery company located in Cambridge, UK. We have developed a next-generation, high-throughput discovery screening platform called SITESEEKER® to identify the best new targets for future therapy and the mechanisms to drug them. By integrating AI-based analysis and neural network learning approaches, we are coupling novel and rich biological discovery data to high dimensional computational approaches. PhoreMost has developed a number of partnerships and an exciting pipeline of first-in-class drug discovery programmes spanning multiple therapeutic areas including oncology, immuno-oncology and ageing. We have a growing franchise in induced proximity control, including targeted protein degradation, which we are leveraging to develop new therapeutic products. Our technology is massively expanding the diversity of novel therapeutics for several key diseases of unmet clinical need – we are drugging the undruggable®.

Roles and responsibilities:

  • You will work as a core member of our bioinformatics group, contributing to the continued success and development of our SITESEEKER® platform and drug discovery campaigns
  • Design and execute computational analysis and R&D tasks to support our programmes
  • Apply your expertise in AI and mathematical tools and interpret both experimental and modelled data accurately and precisely
  • Devise and develop new tools, workflows and strategies to understand our data in new ways
  • Interact and collaborate with biologists and other computational scientists in the team
  • Keep up to date with the latest ML/AI research and developments through publications and relevant conference attendance
  • Document and communicate findings clearly to colleagues and senior leadership

  • Relevant PhD in ML, computational biology, bioinformatics or other relevant mathematics-oriented discipline (or equivalent graduate degree plus proven applied experience)
  • Technical expertise in computational biology, neural networks, AI, biostatistics & mathematical modelling, Bayesian analytics or other non-traditional approaches to model biological data
  • Demonstrable practical experience with commonly used ML frameworks such as Pytorch or Tensorflow
  • A clear understanding of the contribution of computational science to drug discovery
  • Proficiency analysing and applying ML data from omics platforms (genomics, transcriptomics, epigenetics, proteomics)
  • Excellent knowledge of statistical principles as applied to biological problems
  • Mastery of appropriate programming and data visualisation expertise
  • Rigorous attention to detail, structured thinking, consistent and reliable, team player
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to disseminate complex data to a non-expert

Desired additional qualifications:

  • Understanding and experience in the use of structure prediction tools (RosettaFOLD, Alphafold) and protein-protein interaction prediction (sequence and structure)
  • Expertise in the analysis of NGS-derived data (amplicon based, ideally) covering QC, handling, processing & interpretation
  • Experience in pattern recognition or modelling of synthetic biology networks
  • Experience in handing protein structure data and tools used in structural bioinformatics

Time: This is a permanent full-time, research-based position.

Benefits: Equity Participation, Bench-marked Salaries, Life Assurance, Discretionary Bonus, Private health and others

You must be eligible to work in the UK to apply for this role
